Divorce affects people from all walks of life; rich, poor, famous, everyday Joe. Regardless of a couple’s life circumstances, divorce can be extremely trying as many important issues need to be resolved. In many cases, crafting a divorce settlement can be a long, drawn out, process, even more so when the divorcing couple has celebrity status, resulting in intense media scrutiny of every detail and term. However, this is not always the case and, in some instances, couples are able to resolve their settlement peacefully and without acrimony.
According to recent reports, professional golfer Jason Dufner and his wife, Amanda, have reached an agreement to end their marriage. The couple, who married in May of 2012, has apparently decided to call it quits after nearly three years of marriage, allegedly as a result of “a complete incompatibility of temperament” so much so that “the parties can no longer live together”.
Despite this incompatibility, the couple was apparently able to reach a quick resolution and agree to the terms of a final settlement. Mr. Dufner, who has earned more than $7 million during his PGA career, will reportedly keep the couple’s two homes in Alabama, while the no ex-Mrs. Dufner will receive $2.5 million as part of the settlement. According to reports, the settlement was expected to be reviewed and approved by a Judge sometime in April.
If you have decided to end your marriage, whether you believe it will be a tough battle, or a peaceful resolution, such as the Dufner’s, you should consider contacting experienced divorce lawyers. Obviously, if you anticipate a knockdown, drag-out, fight, having an attorney by your side throughout the process is essential. Similarly, even if you and your estranged spouse plan on making your split amicable, the assistance of an attorney is still crucial. Without an attorney’s guidance you might end up agreeing to an unfavorable settlement, the long term ramifications of which may not be apparent at the time you agree to separate. Additionally, sometimes, even though a couple wants to work together, unexpected events occur which cause the process to rapidly take a turn for the worse.
